Apple drops app downloads from next month onwards
Apple has stated that they won’t be making available all applications from its own Mac OS X download site when the day comes for them to roll out their new Mac App Store in early January 2011. Apparently, in an e-mail sent to registered Mac developers on Monday, Ron Okamoto, Apple’s head of developer relations, mentioned that there isn’t really enough space for two giants of their own, the Mac App Store and the long-serving Downloads to co-exist with one another, so the redundant one will just have to go. Here’s what Okamato’s message had to say in detail :-
“Because we believe the Mac App Store will be the best destination for users to discover, purchase, and download apps, we will no longer offer apps on the Mac OS X Downloads site,” said Okamoto. “Instead, beginning January 6, we will be directing users to explore the range of apps available on the Mac App Store.”
Apple will debut the Mac App Store this coming January 6, 2011. All good things must come to an end, so we bid Downloads a fond farewell.
