Windows Phone 7, which had just recently launched for sale internationally, is seeing shortages. The shortage isn’t attributed to any one particular manufacturer, and carrier Orange sent an internal email to its stores stating that the shortage is caused by a “manufacturer issue on a world-wide scale” and that the situation isn’t isolated to any one OEM or carrier. In the UK, Orange had to issue rain checks and complimentary vouchers to those who braved the lines but were not able to obtain a Windows Phone 7 smartphone. Perhaps Microsoft and its partners had been a bit more conservative with their launch production. Either way, the early demand for Windows Phone 7 may be good news for Microsoft, even if the companies involved aren’t able to fulfill all the demand at this point.
