It looks like HTC isn’t the only one to be betting on the cloud as Sony may be relying on the cloud to provide unlimited music streaming to the company’s portable gaming system, the PSP, with its Qriocity services. Just days after the Qriocity video on demand service went live in Europe, it is rumored that the PlayStation Portable update v. 6.35 will being Music Unlimited, a streaming service powered by Qriocity that will make the portable game system more competitive against PMP devices such as Zune with its subscription-based music plan and the iPod. Qriocity has described the service as a “new, cloud-based, digital music service from Sony that will give music lovers access to millions of songs stored and synchronized through the cloud.” Still no word yet on when the update will roll out. Whether the service will make it to a rumored PlayStation Phone in the future is unclear, but if it does it will give Sony a multimedia advantage enjoyed by Zune integration with Windows Phone 7 held by Microsoft and Apple’s iPhone with iTunes ecosystem.
