You might want to repeat the word Blekko over and over again, as it might just be the next big thing where search engines are concerned. So you thought that having three players (Google, Bing and Yahoo) are more than enough? Not the folks at Blekko, who claim that their innovative search engine will deliver an improved search experience which offers results from high quality sites, marking out spammers, aggregators and content farms for easier reading. This is made possible thanks to a simple tool called a slashtag. Slashtags are actually curated sets of web sites organized around a particular topic, where these topics might be as broad as health, money, and automobiles, while narrowing down to gluten-free and neurotechnology where possible. Slashtags are thrown to search queries and limit search results to only the curated sets of sites. Why haven’t the general public heard of Blekko to date then? Well, it has been available on a very limited basis in private beta that began in July earlier this year, seeing only slightly over 8,000 users worldwide joining the beta.
