Rumors have an interesting way of affecting share prices and Sony’s share value jumped as much as three percent in Japan after a rumor began to circulate that Apple was considering buying out the company with some of its mouth-watering $51 billion in cash. This was due to speculation by Barrons though the original author has reminded folks that it’s pure speculation and was probably taken too seriously by Japanese investors. Of course, if you think about it, acquiring Sony wouldn’t be too practical for the fruity company as it would force Apple to suddenly support or kill off several of Sony’s offerings such as Windows PCs that it doesn’t have an interest in. Such a move would also result in concerns from Japanese regulators since they probably wouldn’t be too happy over a foreign acquisition of one of its most important economic contributors.
