There’s no denying Facebook’s popularity as a social networking site, that being said, when it comes to photo-sharing, it tends to lag behind other sites such as Flickr. The good news is that if you’re hooked on Facebook and want to share high-resolution pictures, Facebook has increased the size of photos stored from 720 pixels to 2048 pixels on the largest edge, claiming an 8 time increase overall. Examples of the high-resolution pictures have been uploaded on National Geographic’s album or Sports Illustrated’s album. The photo viewing experience has also been enhanced with the introduction of a new lightbox interface, which is similar to Flickr’s galleries. The rollout of the new interface begins today, so if you haven’t received it yet, it should be arriving pretty soon.
