US Navy Facility Gets Solar Parking Lot To Charge Electric Vehicles

Everybody seems to be busy getting in on the eco game recently, and the US Navy is no exception. Reports are in that the US Navy’s Seal Beach facility now offers a new solar setup, installing a new $1.9 million solar parking lot that can double up as an electric vehicle charging station. Aside from getting plenty of free juice from the sun’s rays, the shade provided by the solar panels will also help to extend the vehicle lifespan, not to mention cutting down the need for air conditioning. The new solar facility, along with the two existing ones will bring the total number of solar panels set up to 200, helping to save 6.5 percent of the power used at Seal Beach, and also helping to shave off over $30,000 a year in electric bills. Sounds like a good deal.
