Pixel Qi fans should be quite happy to hear that the founder Mary Lou Jepsen has announced that the company is busy working on a 7-inch version of its low-power, dual-mode displays. While the shipping date for these displays is expected to be in the first half of 2011, samples could be available for companies looking to integrate the technology by the end of 2010. Pixel Qi’s existing 10-inch display for netbooks and tablets are designed to look like normal color LCD displays when the computer backlight is on, but when the backlight is turned off, the colors will fade into a grayscale mode, giving it an E-Ink display vibe and should consume about 20 percent of the power used by a normal LCD.
