Toshiba has started to roll out its Canvio drive which will see action on Mac systems, since it was specially formatted that way, and will ship pre-loaded with Mac-specific backup software as well. The NTI Shadow 5 software is more than capable of handling both the standard backup that most of us know these days, not to mention the ability to synchronize selected folders while applying 256-bit encryption on secure information. Depending on your file storage requirements, these 2.5″ portable hard drives will come with a minimum of 500GB of storage space, going up to 750GB and all the way to 1TB. The not so good news? It still attaches to your Mac via USB 2.0. You can pick up the Toshiba Canvio for $120, $140 and $190, depending on its storage capacity.
