HP’s Phil McKinney spoke at MobileBeat in San Francisco today by talking about their new flexible display technology that utilizes rugged Mylar-infused sheets which are not unlike those found in solar panels. This makes it able to display video while still being bistable in a similar manner to that of an E Ink display. To put things in perspective, it can preserve an image without the need for any juice. According to McKinney, “these are the kinds of display technologies that will change what we think of in form factors, both in products from Palm with flexible displays, and with HP.” It really depends on how you read the situation – could we be looking at a flexible portable webOS-powered device in the future? Surely HP has a plan for purchasing Palm, and we’re excited to see what they have in store.
