Boffins at the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) were looking out for a tactical flying car under its Transformer (TX) program, and AVX Aircraft Company heard this clarion call, unveiling its AVX Aircraft which can be driven on the ground manually in a similar manner to that of an SUV, while being ready to take off to the skies at a moment’s notice thanks to its Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) capability. The TX program’s objective is to “demonstrate a four person flyable/roadable vehicle that will provide the warfighter with terrain-independent mobility. This presents unprecedented capability to avoid traditional and asymmetrical threats while avoiding road obstructions”, and it is hoped that the AVIX Aircraft fits the bill to a certain extent. Sounds like a great vehicle to have if you’re engaged in a hot drop zone, and it will certainly catch enemies by surprise even when you’re cut off on both ends of the bridge since you can always lift off and fly back to base.
