Samsung has announced that its 1.35 Volt, 1333 Mbps Green DDR3 DRAM memory and Enterprise SSDs have been chosen to be used in HP’s ProLiant G6 and G7 servers that use AMD Opteron 6100 Series and Intel Xeon 5600 processors. Considering that the HP ProLiant G6 and G7 servers are the latest generation x86 class servers designed to be used in virtualized environments where energy efficiency and performance optimization are important, this is a nice win for Samsung. In order to boast its eco credentials, Samsung’s Green DDR3 claims to consume 73 percent less power than DDR2 and offers bandwidth up to 1333 Mbps. With Samsung’s Green DDR3 and SSDs, data centers and server farms will apparently be able to use the next generation of HP ProLiant servers to free up 27 percent of physical space for future capacity expansion.
