Holograms have been used as gimmicks to enhance comic book covers in the past (Wolverine #75, anyone?) as well as collectible cards like the super rare Spiderman vs Venom hologram card from the Marvel Universe Series IV Skybox collection, not to mention as a security measure in currencies and CD labels. Well, Sony aims to improve on that by developming a new mass production technology that includes another layer of security to Lippmann holograms by recording individually distinct identification codes. Bearing individually distinct identification codes, it will be extremely resistant to counterfeiting and forgery, and would be the perfect candidate for use in credit cards, smart IC cards and authentication stickers.
