Is the movie industry going to change in the near future? Word is going around that movies could be fast-tracked to reach Video On Demand (VOD) within 30 days for a premium price of $20-$30. If the leak is accurate, Disney, Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner are all willing to get on the bandwagon. If everything goes according to plan, this plan could go live as soon as the fall or early 2011. Such a move would be controversial as it could possibly jeopardize traditional theater businesses, since users will able to enjoy such movies from the comfort of their own home within a short period of the movie’s launch. Services such as iTunes and Netflix could also be affected, as they’re generally given a delay between the movie’s release on DVD and its rental option. What do you think?
