AT&T Agrees To Provide Unlock Codes For Most Devices Sans The iPhone

Frustrated that AT&T isn’t providing you with the unlock codes for the phone you purchased from them? Unless you’re running an iPhone (or a few other devices), you should be quite happy to hear that AT&T has settled a class action lawsuit by agreeing to provide the unlock codes for phones that are bound to AT&T. Unfortunately this doesn’t include the iPhone that is bound by an exclusivity agreement with the carrier until 2012 (unless the deal has been changed). Of course, some users claim to have asked for and received the unlock codes for certain devices from AT&T before this, but it’s nice to have some legal backing. Customers who are eligible include:

• Customers with postpaid accounts who have clocked in a minimum 90 days of active service and are in good standing and current in their payments
• Customers with prepaid accounts will need to provide a detailed receipt or proof of purchase for the device
• Customers who own devices from AT&T that the carrier has an exclusive arrangement with the manufacturer of less than 10 months will have to wait until the 10-month period expires before they can receive the unlock code.
