Those of you who have travelled to Japan before will probably know of the SIM locks that they use over there. Basically the carriers (NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, Softbank) don’t allow users to use other handsets from rival networks. So you won’t be able to take a SIM card from telco A and pop it into a phone from telco B. This generally causes a lot of trouble for tourists who visit Japan, or for locals who travel overseas. Now reports are in that the Japanese government is set to review this current issue of the SIM locks that are imposed by the carriers. Do you think anything positive will come from this meeting, or will there be no action taken?
