DivX is launching an updated suite of software called DivX Plus for Windows (7, Vista and XP). The new set of applications feature an updated user interface that looks much better than the previous one – it’s easier and more intuitive to use as well. The suite is composed of: the DivX Plus Player, the DivX Plus Web Player, the DivX Plus Codec Pack, and the DivX Plus Converter. I had some hands-on time with the software and here’s what I came away with:
Transferring videos to another (divx-certified) device just got a lot easier. DivX To Go will transfer and even convert of the fly, if necessary. You can either burn a CD or use a USB drive, but this is not networked yet.
1080HD conversion in .mkv (H.264) is now free… and free is good.
DivX seems to have a performance advantage over Flash and Silverlight. DivX Plus also offers surround sound and subtitles in several languages.
