New Dolby Mobile with 5.1 Genuine Surround Sound at MWC

[MWC 2010] Dolby Laboratories is releasing its new version of Dolby Mobile, featuring discrete 5.1 multichannel surround sound. Dolby will held its first public demonstration of its latest technology on an LG Android-based smartphone. I was invited to test the previous version of Dolby Mobile on an LG phone at their headquarters, and you can really hear the difference when Dolby Mobile is on and off. The next version of Dolby Mobile includes the Dolby Digital Plus Technology that enables “realistic surround sound for headphone playback as well as genuine 5.1-channel surround sound playback on home entertainment setups from the mobile device via HDMI” according to Rolf Schmitz, Marketing Director, Mobile, Dolby Laboratories.

If you would like to hear the demo, stop by Dolby’s booth at MWC, Stand 1C43, I have not heard it yet, so write a comment to let me know how it is. The current version of Dolby Mobile will be showcased as well on some of the latest LG handsets such as the LG Mini GD880 (picture) so you will be able to compare both. In the full article, you can see a list of some of the devices featuring the current version of Dolby Mobile.
