While the Zune HD is an above average portable media player, it somehow failed to take off in the way Microsoft wanted for a myriad of reasons, with it being in the wrong place and the wrong time being one of them. Well, one of the major flaws of the device has been addressed this time round – the lack of XviD format support. Nice to know that Microsoft has not forgotten about Zune HD owners by rolling out a new update that will include support for more MPEG-4 based codecs such as XviD. Bear in mind that DivX is still not supported though. Among the other fixes introduced in the new software update include Smart DJ playlists that ought to help balance up the Zune HD against the iPod touch, save for the former’s sad state of application support.
