Viking isn’t some Scandinavian company that makes rock solid vehicles, but is most famous for their range of removable flash storage including CompactFlash and SD memory cards. In a move that sees them diversifying their portfolio, the company has now unveiled 2.5″ solid state disks – also known as SSDs. These new 2.5″ SSDs will target both enterprise and consumer use, where the enterprise version will come with a SCSI 6Gb/s connection, whereas the more docile consumer version will be a regular SATA 3Gb/s drive. Don’t expect these to pop up like mushrooms overnight in notebooks and other devices though, since samples are just starting to be made available to OEMs.
