[CES 2010] Finally, Palm came up with their pixi plus a few months after their pixi (read our pixi review) made headlines. This smartphone is targeted at those who want to make their maiden jump to the wrorld of smartphones, and the most important addition to the pixi plus would be the inclusion of Wi-Fi. Of course, fashionistas will disagree as they would place the five interchangeable color covers for the pixi plus on a higher plane. Needless to say, you can also choose from limited edition covers that feature artwork from famous artists, and these are touchstone compatible as well. The smartphone is similar in hardware as with the pixi, save for the addition of Wi-Fi connectivity. I played with it for a while, and it was pretty zippy, although when I had music playing in the background with Google Maps running and a couple of other “cards” open, things got a wee bit laggy – just a bit, but it was still manageable. If you’re going to multi-task a lot most of the time, perhaps the pre plus would be a better choice, but if your budget is constrained, then the pixi plus shouldn’t make for a bad candidate as well. This will be an exclusive smartphone from Verizon Wireless as it hits the market later this January 25th for a yet undisclosed price. We do hope to see a GSM version roll out, but Palm executives remained silent on this.
