While Apple is certainly in favor of touch-input, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t entertain the possibility of stylus input, as a patent application by the company would indicate. Said patent involves a conductive tip of a stylus, which would allow it to be recognized by a capacitive display, which requires sufficient electrical interaction. There is also an option of a powered stylus, which could provide the stimulus signal required by a capacitive touchscreen. The question is, would you want a stylus for your iPhone or tablet? Of course, it wouldn’t hurt to have the option.
