PS3 controller battery lifespan under fire

We’ve added the PlayStation 3 game console to our 2009 Uber10 list, but we’ve spotted on 1up that a Yahoo article warns potential buyers that once the battery dies (and we mean dies completely), it’s game over for the controller, you’ll have to replace the controller completely – which is worth $55 or so. The article from Anne Kadet points out that other controllers use replaceable AA batteries that can be easily replaced. Well, this is wrong…

First of all, the PS3 controller can be replaced by users, although not as easily as AA batteries. So the first statement is be flat-out wrong. Even if the battery dies, it’s not over for the controller. Secondly, it’s actually fairly rare that the battery actually dies completely and can’t be charged ever again. Most users won’t have to deal with the battery replacement. Here’s a link to the video of Ann Kadet talking about this “problem”
