Panasonic lithium ion battery enters production

Panasonic breaks new ground yet again with their new lithium ion battery that has just entered mass production, boasting a high-capacity 3.1 Ah lithium ion battery which comes with a nickel positive electrode and an energy density of 675 Wh/L. Batteries of similar type are widely used in notebooks, and Panasonic managed to achieve this milestone by relying on its unique Heat Resistance Layer (HRL) technology which forms an insulating metal oxide layer between the positive and negative electrodes, resulting in the battery not overheating should a short circuit occur. When this battery enters the mainstream market, expect our notebooks and portable devices to get even smaller while being able to retain a charge for a longer period of time.
