New iPod Touch has a 802.11n chip
It’s not often that you find a gem hidden inside your device’s hardware, what with everybody trying to cut costs nowadays. Surprise, surprise! That’s what happened when the folks over at iFixit took the updated iPod Touch apart, and found a Broadcom BCM4329 chip which supports 802.11n. Considering that the iPhone 3GS doesn’t support 802.11n, this is a rather pleasant surprise. The Broadcom chip discovered also supports FM transmission and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. There isn’t any indication as to whether the iPod Touch software will support it, but with the hardware available, at least we’re halfway there. That’s the semi-conductor magic: cheaper, faster, better.
