Wireless power advances one specification at a time: Qi 0.95

Wireless power is probably one of the most desirable and hyped thing in modern consumer electronics, yet it is not used in most gadgets, except for electric toothbrushes and the Palm Pre. The Wireless Power Consortium is trying to change things by releasing the version 0.95 of their specifications for review. Compatible devices will (one day) be recognizable by the “Qi” logo. For the little story, Qi is pronounced “chee”, like the “vital energy” that any Kung Fu movie fan is well familiar with. At the moment, devices that use 5W or less are on the list of devices to be charged by Qi. The standard aims to be an international standard and should work in all countries, a key element for success. Let’s hope that it takes off.
