Is humanity going to go extinct due to their own devices? The answer might very well be in the affirmative, as the HRP-4C female humanoid robot developed by Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has finally made her debut on the runway, appearing in a professionally done fashion show in Osaka recently. Standing at 158cm tall, she was donned in a wedding dress by designer Yumi Katsura. She managed to stroll smoothly up and down the 10-meter runway without tripping over or suffering from a wardrobe malfunction, and managed to strike a variety of poses while staring into the delighted audience during opportune moments. According to developer Kazuhito Yokoi, “We hope she can work in fashion and entertainment,” he said, staring pensively at the stage. Like the father of a bride, I feel both happy and sad.” Hopefully this doesn’t sound the death knell for the era of supermodels.
