SID Display Week 2009 saw the introduction of a bracelet-type organic EL display from Universal Display Corp. (UDC) of the US and LG Display Co. Ltd. of Korea. This joint development allows the display to be worn around the wrist like a watch without suffering from a drop in image quality, where the 4″ display is able to offer QVGA resolution at 320 x 240 pixels, alongside 100ppi that allows it to display 1.67 million colors. A phosphorescent material is used in the organic EL display, offering a luminance of 100cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 when emitting white light. It consumes around 1W of electricity while operating at 15V. We look forward to the day where devices will include this as part of their display.
