Samsung has sent the word out for 160,000 Jitterbug cellphones that targeted seniors to be returned since they have failed miserably in one of their most important tasks – to connect to 911 services whenever the handset is out of their serice area. Jitterbug owners will get an “out of range, try again later” message instead whenever they attempt to do so, and this recall will apply to SPH-a110 and SPH-a120 Jitterbug models that are equipped with standard keys and sold between March 2008 and May 2009. Owners of the OneTouch model need not worry as this handset is not affected. The problem is easily rectified via a software upgrade, so make sure you schedule for a free upgrade soon by calling Samsung toll-free at 866/304-4980.
