We’ve seen battery technology improve by leaps and bounds over the years, but here’s something new for everyone to consider – the air-powered battery known as the STAIR (St Andrews Air) battery. It charges just like other standard batteries from an AC outlet directly, but whenever power is discharged, it will draw even more energy from the air around. This is made possible courtesy of an open mesh section of the battery and relying on the oxygen content in the air. This oxygen will react with a porous carbon component within the battery so that the cells can be juiced up continually. According to the STAIR battery developers, their invention can discharge power around ten times longer than traditional batteries and weighs less as well.
