[Mobile World Congress] Samsung Telecommunications America and T-Mobile USA have finally unveiled the Samsung Memoir on an official basis long after leaked images of it surfaced. This is a touch-screen handset that boasts a stunning 8 megapixel camera and will be available from February 25th onwards on an exclusive basis from T-Mobile USA. Photographer and model Helena Christensen is the lucky person to spend some time with the Memoir, pimping it as her official phone and camera to stay in touch while traveling around New York and Barcelona. As you can tell, while it does its cell phone functions just fine, the main attraction would be the 8 megapixel shooter, and it hopes to replace the entry level digital camera one day. While far from perfect, you do get the following with the Samsung Memoir’s camera :-
- Best-in-class digital imaging features
- Xenon flash
- CMOS auto focus
- 16x digital zoom
- Adjustable brightness and flash
- Blink detection, face detection, anti-shake to reduce blur and geo-tagging
- Five different shooting modes
You can also use the Memoir to record video for up to an hour depending on the type of resolution you use. With TV-out, you can share your favorite memories with family and friends whenever you pop over their house and vice versa. Nice to see the proximity sensor is included to automatically adjust the backlight when using the phone’s camera in different environments. Apart from that, you will also benefit from Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, widget support, 3G connectivity, a full virtual QWERTY keypad, haptic feedback and A-GPS among others. No word on how much this will cost though, but you can bet at least a few dollars are going into Helena Christensen’s pocket as their spokesperson. [Press Release]
