Ramdisk PCI card
Via MacBidouille

Hard drives are probably the slowest component of a computer (actually, it’s the CD/DVD drives). That’s because they function with mechanical parts that just move very slowly compared to the speed of silicon memory like the RAM.

This PCI card is in fact a Ramdisk: a virtual hard disk using memory instead of a physical disk. To the Operating System (Windows) it will look and feel like an ultra-fast hard drive. The maximum capacity is 4GB (4x1GB), which is not bad at all. I would try to put the system swap file (system temporary disk storage) on it.

The idea is interesting, but isn’t it easier to just add more RAM?
