Recent data has shown that music streaming is on the rise. Google knows this and the company does have several options available, such as Google Play Music and YouTube Music. However according to the rumors, Google could be considering possibly streamlining their offerings by killing off Google Play Music.
This is according to a report from Droid-Life in which they have heard from their sources that Google might kill off its Play Music service in favor of the YouTube music streaming service called “YouTube Remix”. For those hearing about this for the first time, back in December 2017 a report from Bloomberg revealed that YouTube might have plans for another music streaming service called YouTube Remix.
The service was originally rumored for a launch in March but that obviously did not happen. Instead it is expected to be launched later this year, where if the reports are to be believe, could spell the end of Google Play Music. Like we said, Google and YouTube already have streaming services and it can be confusing for users to decide which to sign up for, so by streamlining their offerings, it would help make it clearer.
Google has yet to officially confirm anything so take it with a grain of salt for now, but if you are subscribed to Google Play Music, perhaps this could be worth keeping in mind for the near future.
