We’re sure many rolled their eyes when Apple announced the Apple Pencil a couple of years ago. On the surface it seemed like a stylus that Apple had rebranded, but upon its release, many have since found it to be an invaluable companion and a must-have accessory for the iPad Pro.

That being said could Apple be working on a newer version? According to Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang, there is a chance that Apple could be working on a new Apple Pencil. However don’t expect to see anything major in terms of features or upgrades, but rather it will be an Apple Pencil designed for the rumored larger iPhone X.

There are rumors suggesting that Apple could launch a 6.5-inch iPhone X, and apparently this new Apple Pencil has been designed for the phone. Assuming it is true, it would put it directly in competition with the Samsung Galaxy Note series, although given how troublesome it is to keep an Apple Pencil for the iPad Pro, we’re not sure how Apple plans on stowing away the stylus for the iPhone.

Under Steve Jobs, Apple had notoriously rejected the concept of styluses, a fact that many pointed out when Apple (now under Tim Cook’s leadership) announced the Apple Pencil. Expanding it to the iPhone X does seem like an odd choice so it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now. Zhang had also earlier predicted that a lower-end HomePod Mini could be in the works as well.
