One of the trends we’re seeing these days is how messenger apps on our mobile devices also have a desktop counterpart. Take for example apps like WhatsApp, Viber, LINE, KakaoTalk, Facebook Messenger, and Allo, all of whom have either a web version or desktop version of their app available.
This means that users who work on their computers can continue chatting with their friends or colleagues on mobile without having to constantly check their phone. The good news is that if you’re someone who relies on Android Messages quite a bit, you’ll be pleased to learn that the folks at Android Police have found hints that a web version of Android Messages could be in the works.
This is based on the APK teardown of the latest version of Android Messages (which for those unfamiliar is Android’s default messaging app for SMS, MMS) in which there were some references made to the upcoming feature. However given that Allo is already available for the web, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Android Messages could be given the same treatment.
However there’s no telling when the feature will launch, but the references discovered in the APK could be a sign that we’re getting close, and we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for it.
