Recently it was reported that iOS 11.1 users were experiencing a rather strange autocorrect bug, where typing the letter “i” will see it autocorrect to “A[?]”. It is a strange bug and it is unclear how it even happened, but the good news is that Apple has since fixed that problem with the release of iOS 11.1.1.
iOS users on the iPhone and iPad should be able to update their devices to iOS 11.1.1 right now, and with the update it looks like Apple has managed to resolve the issue. Prior to that, Apple offered users a temporary workaround through the text replacement feature in the keyboard settings menu, which isn’t necessarily ideal but it worked.
Now with the release of the update, users can remove the text replacement if they wish as it should be working normally again. In addition to fixing the autocorrect bug, the update to iOS 11.1.1 will also address a “Hey Siri” bug in which for some users it has stopped working. This is a very minor update that appears to be mostly bug fixes, so don’t expect any new features or major changes to the operating system.
If you haven’t been prompted to update by the system, you can pull the update manually by going to Settings –> General –> Software Update.
