Mozilla has been working on a new version of its Firefox browser which it claims is twice as fast as the original Firefox from six months back. The company today released Firefox Quantum out of beta. Not only are there speed improvements, but the browser also comes with a new sleek user interface with a customizable toolbar.
Firefox Quantum has a powerful new engine which Mozilla claims has been built for “rapidfire performance.” It promises better and faster page loading that requires less computer memory. There are new smart features for a more intelligent browsing experience.
Browser speed test reports suggest that Firefox Quantum overtakes the ubiquitous Google Chrome in terms of performance. Mozilla claims that its new browser is 30 percent lighter than Chrome and that this less memory usage means there’s more space for your computer to keep running smoothly.
Despite positioning itself as the best alternative to Chrome, Firefox Quantum uses Google as the default search engine in the United States, Canada, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. It used Yahoo as the default search engine previously while Google and Bing were offered as options.
Some of the features include private browsing mode, tracking protection, night mode, Pocket integration into the toolbar, and more.
Mozilla has released Firefox Quantum today as a free download for PC, iOS, and Android.
