With Amazon, Google, and Apple launching smart speakers, it seems as though Xiaomi wants in on the action because the company has since announced a smart speaker of its own. Dubbed the Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker, this announcement adds Xiaomi to the growing list of tech companies looking to launch similar products.
Now this isn’t the first speaker that Xiaomi has launched. Back in December last year, the company unveiled a voice-controlled speaker, so what makes this speaker different is that it will feature AI, meaning that Xiaomi is hoping to take the likes of Amazon, Google, and Apple on. Given that Xiaomi is already fighting with Apple on smartphones, this announcement doesn’t really shock us.
The speaker can be used to control a bevy of Xiaomi’s products and also smart products from Xiaomi’s partners. It will feature content like music, audio books, kids stories, and even access to radio. The speaker itself will feature an array of six drivers that will allow for 360-degree audio broadcasting.
In terms of pricing, the Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker is pretty cheap at 299 RMB, which is roughly $45. We doubt that Xiaomi has plans to launch the speaker outside of China (or Asia), so maybe don’t get your hopes up at getting your hands on one just yet.
