Garmin has recently announced its latest smartwatch in the form of the Garmin Quantix 5. While on the surface it looks like any regular smartwatch, Garmin claims that this smartwatch has been designed for marine activity. According to Garmin, “More than a watch, the quatix 5 provides comprehensive boat connectivity with compatible Garmin chartplotters and other marine electronics to offer autopilot control, remote multifunction display (MFD) waypoint marking, data streaming – including speed, depth, temperature and wind – sail racing assistance, and much more.”
In addition to marine-based features, the Quantix 5 will also offer up more traditional smartwatch features, such as being able to track your runs, your hikes, cycling, and more. It will also be able to track your heart rate, daily activities, and display smart notifications. Also what’s interesting is that this is not an Android Wear-based smartwatch and will instead be powered by Garmin’s own OS. Unfortunately the watch does not come cheap with a price tag of $850 for the version with the stainless steel band, and $600 for the regular silicone strap one.
