It was confirmed last year that Nokia is making a return to the smartphone market. It’s not the same Nokia that you might remember from a few years ago when it sold its hardware business to Microsoft. The Finnish company has actually licensed its brand to another Finnish company called HMD Global which will manufacture and sell smartphones under the Nokia brand. If you’ve been waiting to see the new Nokia smartphones, make an entry in your calendar for February 26th.
HMD Global did unveil its first Nokia-branded handset a couple of days back. It’s called the Nokia 6 and it’s only going to be released in China over the coming months.
However, HMD Global has made no secret of the fact that it wants to compete in the international smartphone market from the get go. Previous reports have suggested that the company might have as many as five new devices in the pipeline for 2017.
If a Facebook post by Nokia Mobile is anything to go by, we’re going to be treated to a handful of those new devices on February 26th. The post mentions that “more announcements to follow on February 26th.” It’s right at the start of the Mobile World Congress 2017 event in Barcelona so it’s the perfect stage to launch some new smartphones.
HMD Global might show off the Nokia 6 in more detail at the event, hopefully, aside from the handful of other devices that are believed to be in the pipeline.
