The Nintendo Switch features rather interesting controllers in the form of the Joy-Cons. While they look tiny, those who have tried the controllers out have said that they do feel surprisingly comfortable. However for those with bigger hands or who want a better grip, there is an included grip that is bundled with the console.
However it has recently come to the attention of Eurogamer that the included grips are nothing more than a piece of plastic. If you were hoping that these grips would somehow charge the controllers at the same time, you’ll be disappointed to learn that it will not. Nintendo is selling a separate premium version of the grip that comes with a USB slot that lets you charge and play at the same time, but the basic bundled grip won’t.
This was actually something that Nintendo initially did not mention, but recent shop listings have revealed that there will be a separate Joy-Con grip that will offer that functionality, albeit for a price. We guess to be fair the wireless controllers for the PS4 and Xbox One face similar issues, but we guess some gamers might be disappointed that they’ll have to fork out extra money for an accessory just to charge and play at the same time.
That being said, Nintendo is claiming that the Joy-Con controllers should be able to average about 20 hours of use, but will shorten over time presumably due to the battery degrading, which is completely normal. The Nintendo Switch has been officially announced for $300 and will be available come 3rd of March, 2017.
