Unfortunately if you’re hoping that will happen for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, think again. Speaking to IGN Portugal (via Nintendo Everything), it seems that users can mix and match audio and text. This means that you either play the game entirely in Japanese, or you play it entirely in whichever language that you have selected.
According to the game’s producer Eiji Aonuma, “In the case of the Nintendo Switch, if you change the language of the system, you can change the game to Japanese, but that will change everything to Japanese. Unfortunately, it is not possible to play with English text, for example, and Japanese voices.”
This is a bit of a bummer as sometimes dubbing in another language usually doesn’t convey the same feel as the original, but unfortunately we guess that’s what we’ll have to work with. That being said, we don’t really recall Nintendo’s video games being particularly chatty to begin with so maybe it isn’t that big of a loss.
