If one can make an argument about Apple being one of the most influential companies in the United States then Samsung is something else entirely in its home country of South Korea. It’s one of the few family-owned conglomerates in the country that has a vast business empire and incredible influence and respect. This is why it’s a significant move from Apple to decide to open an official retail store in Samsung’s territory.
There were rumors that Apple was thinking about opening a new retail store in South Korea, close to where Samsung HQ is located in Seoul, and the company officially confirmed that a couple of days back.
“We’re now hiring the team that will offer our customers in Seoul the service, education and entertainment that is loved by Apple customers around the world,” Apple confirmed to Reuters. Apple’s website now lists 14 new job openings in South Korea for positions like Genius Bar staff and store leader.
Apple has taken a lot of time to make a decision about opening an official retail store in its main rival’s country. Customers in South Korea have had to deal with certified Apple reseller stores for now and would surely want the proper retail experience that Apple is known for.
Local media reports suggest that Apple’s first official retail store is going to be opened in a 6,000 square-foot building in Seoul’s high-end Gangnam district. The store is expected to open its doors to customers by November this year.
