It is without a doubt that Samsung’s decision to include curved screens with their Galaxy smartphones was a good one. People appear to be pretty pleased with it, which is why one of the rumors regarding the Galaxy S8 is that Samsung could be skipping the flat screen variant and offer up curved displays only.While that rumor could be true, it seems that analysts think it might be too early for Samsung to do that yet. According to a report from The Investor, they are reporting that some don’t think that ditching flat screen phones is such a good idea, at least not right now as apparently demand for curved screen phones isn’t as high yet.
They quote Choo Dae-young, an analyst in charge of electronics industry at Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade who said, “There appears to be no high demand for dual-edge screens because some still find them inconvenient because they mistakenly touch the sides of the smartphones. The utility of a bezel-less display does not seem that much higher for small, portable smartphones compared to televisions.”
Peter Lee, NH Investment & Securities also said, “Samsung appears to be pushing dual-edge screens to distinguish its design rather than from an efficiency perspective. In order to boost efficiency, Samsung needs to unveil foldable devices, which can be used as both smartphones and tablets.” Of course sometimes companies do prove the analysts wrong, but what do you guys think? Should Samsung proceed with just curved displays, or should they still offer flat screen versions?
