iphone-smartphone-apps-appleWhen you wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing you do? Do you lie in bed and contemplate life? Do you go straight to the bathroom? Or do you almost immediately turn to your phone to check to see if there are any messages, emails, and notifications from social media?

If you said the third option, you’re not alone. According to a recent study conducted by the Deloitte Global Mobile Consumer Survey of 2016, they found that 61% of people check their phones 5 minutes after waking up. This number goes up to 88% for those who check their phones within 30 minutes, and 96% within an hour.

According to Neeraj Jain, Partner at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India, “This study reveals that smartphone usage has increased considerably. It has been identified as a disruptor in many common daily activities. This (the numbers) says a lot about the way mobile phone usage has intruded in consumers’ personal space and life.”

The study has also found that 74% of people check their phones about 15 minutes before going to sleep. This study is includes participation over 53,000 people, and also revealed other interesting information about smartphone usage, such as how social media and messaging apps are the top two things that users check on first thing in the morning. So, are you in agreement with these findings?
