Based on the initial reviews of the Assassin’s Creed movie, it seems that things weren’t looking up for the film. Now it seems that the official numbers are in and it looks like moviegoers have voted with their wallets because according to the numbers reported by Variety, the film made less than what some had projected it could earn in its first week.
According to Variety, the Assassin’s Creed movie only made $22.5 million in the first 6 days. Given that the movie had a budget of $125 million, safe to say that they are a pretty long way off from breaking even, let alone turning a profit. However Fox’s distribution chief Chris Aronson seems pretty optimistic anyway.
According to Aronson, he believes that things will pick up once the numbers from international markets starts to roll in. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen, but like we said, the majority of reviews don’t seem to look too favorable for the film. It has been rated 6.8/10 on IMDB, 19% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 36% at Metacritic.
It is possible that foreign markets could bring in more money for the film. After all we’ve seen that happen with the Warcraft movie where despite being panned by critics in the US, the movie did pretty well over in China where it even beat out the likes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
