As you might have heard, Apple and Nokia appear to be ready to go into an epic legal battle and it looks like Withings has been caught in the middle of it. It seems that according to reports, Apple has pretty much pulled all of Withings’ accessories from the Apple Online Store following the lawsuit with Nokia.
For those wondering how Withings is part of this, it is because earlier this year Nokia announced that they would be acquiring the company, which essentially makes any Withings product a Nokia product by extension. Apple did not disclose why they pulled the products, but given the recent lawsuit it’s not hard to connect the dots.
If you’re unfamiliar with Withings, the company makes quite a few health-related tech gadgets. For example they make smart thermometers, smart and connected weighing scales, smartwatches, and so on. You might call Apple’s move “petty” but this isn’t the first time the company has retaliated in this manner.
A couple of years ago, Bose’s products were similarly removed from Apple’s stores after the company had sued Beats (which was owned by Apple) over its noise-cancelling patents. However Bose’s products were eventually returned once the lawsuit was over and done with, and we can only assume (and hope) it is the same for Withings.
