Apple’s new MacBook Pros are expensive and when you drop that amount of money on something, you expect it to work. Unfortunately some MacBook Pro owners are finding out that this isn’t always the case as quite a few users are reporting that the video on their laptops have been glitching out.
According to the users, it seems to affect both the MacBook Pro with a discrete GPU and the ones that use the motherboard’s GPU, which seems to suggest that this isn’t a hardware issue and could be due to a driver problem. It also seems to be mainly affecting the 15-inch MacBook Pro, so for now 13-inch MacBook Pro users are “safe”.
Also a common thread has been found and that is users who encounter this problem seem to be using Adobe’s software when it happens, such as Adobe Media Encoder and Lightroom, just to name a few. At the moment there does not appear to be a fix for the problem, so for now MacBook Pro users will just have to deal with it.
We’re not sure if this is grounds for a return/exchange for a new unit, but you could try your luck, although you might want to call ahead and check with your local store first. In any case hopefully Apple will be able to address this problem ASAP, so check back with us soon where hopefully a fix will have been made available.
