Tomorrow Google is expected to take the wraps off its new Pixel and Pixel XL phones, but if the rumors are to be believed, Google’s Daydream VR headset will also be officially revealed. This is according to a report from Variety who has also learnt from multiple sources that the Daydream VR headset will cost $79.
Unsurprisingly Google declined to comment on the report, but $79 isn’t too bad of a price and will help make VR more accessible to the masses. However it won’t be a full VR headset like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Instead it is expected to be more akin to the Gear VR or Cardboard in which you will need to use a phone to power it.
Variety is also reporting that Google will be shipping a controller along with the headset that they claim will look similar-ish to the Wii remote. It will be able to track motion and also be used for navigation and gameplay. In terms of compatibility, we guess it’s safe to assume that only Daydream-compatible phones will play nicely with this headset.
As it stands only the Nexus 6P seems to be the closest when it comes to being Daydream compatible, but we expect that the Pixel and Pixel XL will fit those specs pretty nicely. Either way do check back with us tomorrow for all the details.
