Could AT&T be interested in adding another company to their acquisition list? It wasn’t too long ago that the company’s acquisition of DirecTV was given the greenlight by the FCC, and now it looks like the carrier has another company in their sights: Time Warner Inc. (not to be confused with Time Warner Cable, which was acquired by Charter Communications).
This is according to a report from Bloomberg who claims that people familiar with the matter have told them that executives at both companies have been in talks. AT&T and Time Warner are said to have met up in recent weeks to discuss business strategy, and one of those strategies involves a possible merger.
However it seems that this might simply be an idea that was tossed out as opposed to it being actually considered, especially since the Bloomberg report claims that neither side has hired a financial adviser yet, which would be a prudent next step should the talks start to become more serious.
That being said, it would be a smart move by AT&T to acquire Time Warner as it could give them access to a variety of TV and home internet services, like HBO, Cartoon Network, NBA, and so on. Time Warner themselves are also said to be open to the idea of selling themselves if they receive an offer they consider to be fair, although their rejection of 21st Century Fox’s offer of more than $75 billion would indicate that they are probably seeking more than that.
